  • Pot of Gold: In Irish folklore, leprechauns are mischievous little creatures who are known for their love of gold and trickery. They are often depicted as small men wearing green suits and hats, and are said to have a pot of gold hidden at the end of a rainbow.
  • Brush Your Teeth: It is believed that the first modern toothbrush was invented by a prisoner in England. Sometime around 1780, William Addis created a toothbrush from bone and used swine bristle for the brush.
  • In Like a Lion: You may have heard the weather proverb, “If March comes in like a lion, it will go out like a lamb,” which means that if the month starts off stormy, it will end with mild weather. There is, however, a different interpretation: The constellation Leo, the lion, rises in the east at the beginning of March and thus the month “comes in like a lion;” while Aries, the ram, sets in the west at the end of the month, and hence, the month “will go out like a lamb.”
  • Dryer Solutions: For environmental reasons, some people avoid using dryer sheets to reduce static cling in their laundry. An alternative is multiple-use, natural wool dryer balls, which fluff up the wet clothes, reducing friction.

Back in Time

  • Adrian was platted in 1880 when the Missouri Pacific Railroad headed south of Harrisonville. There are two beliefs by which the city got its name: The first belief is that  it was named by settlers who hailed from Adrian, Michigan. The second belief belief is that the city was named after Adrian Talmadge, a son of the railroad superintendent who also named the city of Archie after his youngest son. Fun Fact: A post office has been in operation at Adrian since 1880.
